The Ebonyi State University ASUU Leadership has responded to the directives of the Governor of Ebonyi State Engr David Nweze Umahi, Recall that the Governor had directed Ebonyi State University to resume academic activities on 21st October 2020, ASUU Leadership EBSU branch in an interview said :

This is a joke taken too far. This is a system that is owing to us for 4 months, threatening to cut our salaries by 20% and directed we be sacked.

It seems our Management has become so insensitive to our plight and lacks understanding of the rules of engagement during strike actions.

Our National Officers have taken over the case and will respond asap.

Our leaders and Management thought we are one month away from poverty and are amazed that we can be stable and.not appear with our caps in hand after four months. They have not sacrificed their welfare packages, imperative, and security votes. They couldnt give us palliatives and want us to sacrifice our lives for them.

Remain resolute.

We cannot be undaunted.

A people united cannot be broken.

Let the Concerned Professors that entered into the agreement with them resume and teach empty classrooms.

Because we still love them and simply consider them as being prodigal, we just have to inform them that Covid-19 protocols are not in place in our environments. Students do not live in hostels where their activities and movement can be regulated.

The environment is overgrown with weed.

Rodents have taken over the buildings.

Already, we have been sacked since we have not resumed on Wednesday as directed by the Visitor.

We have lost and compromised our autonomy to the Concerned Professors and there is nothing left.

Anarchy has taken over because people have refused to tell the Visitor the simple truth.

State Government CANNOT proscribe ASUU, a national union whose affairs are contained in the EXCLUSIVE LIST. It is beyond their jurisdiction to do so and its necessary they retract some of their statements before they become burning National issues.

Note that whoever does not take interest in what is small will take false interest in what is big.

They have not taken interest in our welfare: staff development, payment of PG honoraria, payment of WASP honoraria, payment of EAA, the release of duly earned promotions and payment of arrears, payment of our Actuarial pension benefit from employment till July 2019, infrastructural development of our university, payment of benefits as at when due, payment of pension and gratuity, etc.

How will they, even to a little extent be interested in our affairs with Federal Government that has provided us with almost all the structures on campus, staff development, and training, internet, support for books publications, hostels for our students, library, buses, furniture, etc through TETFund interventions and NEEDS Assessment.

Ebonyi State University is not a local University and we can no longer be subjected to an inferiority complex: a situation where our mates have become Professors in other Universities while some of us are still Senior Lecturers and Readers is demoralizing, dehumanizing, and criminal.

It is likened to a criminal act to give someone a letter of appointment on a rank while receiving payment for a rank less due to the obnoxious notional promotion and some people are bold and proud to own up such irresponsibly.

We shall remain members of ASUU and shall begin from henceforth, to look into the affairs of our retired colleagues who shamefully could not struggle to secure better working conditions for themselves and out of envy of what we are gaining today, have vowed to frustrate us.

We shall no longer tolerate them and request that they quietly leave the scene and allow us to take our destiny into our hands.

Their time has expired. This is our chance and we shall take it with two hands and two legs.

There is no going back.

We shall not take it kindly with any defaulter, seen going to school.

All for.one, one for all.
