FG yields to ASUU Demands

The ASUU industrial strike which has lasted for eight months finally seems to be coming to an end, ASUU members met at the University of Lagos today 21st November to decide whether to suspend the industrial strike or not. This meeting was crucial following the outcome of the ASUU/FG meeting yesterday 20th November 2020, The Federal Government had accepted to offer the Union NGN65 billion naira and also suspended the IPPIS method of payment. 
 

ASUU has concluded to continue consulting, and have agreed to get back to the Federal Government (FG) on Friday 27th Nov, after their consultations. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, today, says all the branches, which are over 70, will participate in the decision to either call – off the strike or not.

ASUU President, Prof Ogunyemi said “We are reporting back to the government on Friday. That is when the consultation will end.”

The Federal Government yesterday agreed to ASUU’s demand to pay their members’ salary arrears from February to June through the old salary payment platform, pending when the university lecturers will complete the development of its own payment platform- (UTAS).
