KAAD Scholarship Programme for Developing Countries is open for applications in 2024. It is offered by the Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD) to support postgraduate studies and research stays in Germany for citizens of developing countries.

The KAAD is the scholarship organisation of the Catholic Church in Germany for postgraduates and academics from (developing) countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.By providing scholarships, educational events and personal and spiritual guidance, it supports its scholarship holders in view of their future multiplying activities in their home countries.

This is done in cooperation with partner committees and associations of former scholarship holders in these countries, with the aim of (academic) network building and a contribution to holistic development that includes the religious and interreligious dimension.

The KAAD Germany Scholarship Program targets post-graduates and academics residing in their home countries with prior professional experience.The focus is on postgraduate studies or research stays in Germany. Administered by regional partner committees, the program emphasizes documents submitted to the applicant’s home country committee.

Who can apply:

  • You must be a citizen of a developing country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, or Latin America.
  • You must have a university degree and professional experience in your home country.
  • You must be planning to pursue a Masters degree, PhD, or other postgraduate studies, or a research stay (2-6 months for academics) at a German university.
  • You must be of Catholic denomination (or generally belong to a Christian denomination, especially for applicants from the Near and Middle East).

How to apply:

Applications are submitted through the KAAD partner committee in your home country. You can find a list of partner committees on the KAAD website. The application deadline is usually in June or July.

What the scholarship covers:

The KAAD scholarship covers the full cost of your studies in Germany, including tuition fees, living expenses, and health insurance. It also provides a monthly stipend for personal expenses.

Here are some additional details about the KAAD Scholarship Programme:

  • The scholarship is awarded for the duration of your studies in Germany, up to a maximum of three years.
  • The scholarship is not renewable.
  • You are required to return to your home country after completing your studies in Germany.
