About the Award
The TWAS-Abdool Karim Award in Biological Sciences is designed to honor women scientists in Least Developed African countries for their achievements in Biological Sciences. The award is named after TWAS President Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim, a distinguished virologist from South Africa. The award carries a cash prize of USD $5,000.
Eligibility
The award is open to female scientists who are nationals of a Least Developed African country and who have been living and working there for at least two years immediately prior to their nomination. Fellows of TWAS are not eligible. Self-nominations and nominations from jury members will not be considered.
Nomination Process
Nominations for the 2024 award can only be submitted electronically through the TWAS online platform. The deadline for submitting nominations is May 10, 2024.
Selection Process
A selection committee appointed by TWAS will review all nominations and select the winner. The selection committee will be composed of eminent scientists from around the world.
Award Ceremony
The winner of the award will be announced in June 2024. The award ceremony will be held at the TWAS General Assembly, which will take place in Trieste, Italy, in November 2024.
