WAEC GCE 2023 has commenced, Procedures for Registration

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) wishes to inform the public that it has commenced the registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates 2023 – second series. This notice serves to inform the general public and intending candidates of the upcoming registration slated to begin on July 10, 2023.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) administers two sets of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Independent Candidates annually. These are the WASSCE for Private Candidates-First Series (Jan/Feb) and the Second Series (Aug/Sept).

Applicants should also be aware that the registration process for the 2023 WAEC GCE has been structured to incorporate biometric characteristics, which will be utilized for verification purposes at the exam centers.

WAEC GCE Registration Details

The registration period for the WAEC GCE closes on August 11, 2023. For walk-in registration, each candidate is required to pay a fee of Thirty Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (N30,500.00) per candidate. Registration must be completed at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled start time of the intended exam paper(s).

Approved Subjects for WAEC GCE Second Series

A total of Thirty-Six (36) subjects will be available for the examination. Prospective candidates should visit the official Council website at www.waecnigeria.org to confirm the list of available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN.

How To register for WAEC GCE 2023

Candidates need to pay a registration fee of Eighteen Thousand Naira (N18,000) at designated branches of the following banks or accredited agents to obtain the Registration PIN and Information VCD, Below are the banks that you can obtain PIN from:

Candidates are also required to pay an additional Five Hundred Naira (N500.00) commission to the banks/accredited agents. Alternatively, they can use specified cashless payment channels mentioned in the new advertisement to purchase the registration token using a credit/debit card.

Once the Registration PIN is obtained, candidates should visit https://registration.waecdirect.org/ to proceed with the registration.

National Identification Number (NIN):

Each candidate must have a National Identification Number for the registration process.

Candidates with Special Needs:

Candidates with special needs should register online like other candidates but clearly indicate their impairments, such as visual impairment, low vision, spastic, speech, hard of hearing, etc.

Completion of Registration:

Candidates must complete the registration within two weeks of accessing the website for the first time during the registration period. It is crucial to ensure that names, gender, passport photographs, dates of birth, and selected subjects are accurate. The Admission Notice should be printed as evidence of successful registration, serving as identification during the examination. The Result Checker PIN will also be provided on the Admission Notice. The designated fingerprint scanner is the UareU digital persona fingerprint device.

General Information:

Candidates are advised to review the Information VCD before registering. The registration fee is non-refundable. Keep checking the website for the examination timetable. Passport photographs must be taken with a digital camera meeting the Microsoft HD 3000 specifications. Photographs should be of good quality, either black & white or color (JPEG File only, 275 by 314 pixels with 72 dpi resolution), with a contrasting background and no obstructive items. Submission of defaced or poor-quality photographs will invalidate the candidates entry. Candidates should thoroughly study the examination Regulations and Syllabuses available for download on the WAEC website (www.waeconline.org.ng) using the Registration PIN. Candidates should come to the examination halls dressed casually and without arms. Professional uniforms are not allowed. Candidates taking the exam in more than one center will have their entire results canceled. Smoking is prohibited in the examination hall. Candidates found with mobile phones or other electronic gadgets will have their entire results canceled. Entries should be accurate as the Council will not be responsible for errors in candidates information. Requests for amendments will not be entertained. Original Admission Notice must be brought to the examination hall. Engaging in examination malpractice will result in result cancellation and potential prosecution. Valid email and telephone numbers must be provided during registration. All candidates should adhere to COVID-19 regulations.
